We’ve heard from Sony that they are working on some new high-end Android devices to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5. We’ve also seen leaks of the Sony Yuga and the Sony Odin before. Both are said to have 5-inch 1080p displays. Which would be a big step up for Sony in the Android world. Currently Sony doesn’t do to well here in the US (at least in the smartphone industry), but I’m sure they are looking to change that. The Odin is code named the Xperia C650X while the Yuga is code named the Xperia C660X.

It looks like the Yuga will hit Japan first and feature water resistance which appears to be very popular over there. Guess they drop their phone in the sink often? And the Odin will be making it’s way to the International market, as the Yuga’s slightly different brother. We haven’t heard whether either of these devices will be making their way to the US yet, but I’m sure one of them will hit AT&T. As that’s the only carrier Sony has really ever been available on.

According to the XDA member that leaked the specs, the Yuga will measure at 138.6 x 71 x 8.1 millimeters and weigh 140 grams, while the Odin will be 131.6 x 69.7 x 9.8 millimeters and weigh 147 grams. So there are some slight differences here in the measurements. But the smaller and thicker Odin will weigh 7 grams more than the Yuga. So maybe the Odin has a bigger battery? That would be something out of Motorola’s handbook wouldn’t you say?

The Tipster also said that these devices will probably be shown off at CES. Which most likely means they will be coming to at least one US carrier. As CES is mostly a US-based tradeshow, where they show off devices for US carriers. Hopefully Sony has learned from their past mistakes and will release these phones within weeks of announcing them. I’d hate for them to show them off at CES in the beginning of January then launch them in April. By then most people would have forgotten about them.

So who’s interested in a 5-inch 1080p Sony Android phone? Let us know in the comments below.
