Bell Launching Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and LG Optimus L5 II
According to @evleaks, Bell is supposedly gearing up to launch both the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the LG Optimus L5 II. If you don’t already know both handsets are pretty large compared to the average device. Although, massive devices are quickly becoming the norm so that average is growing.
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 includes the following specs:
- 6.3-inch 720p HD display
- 1.7GHz dual-core processor
- 1.5GB of RAM
- 8MP rear camera and 1.9MP front-facing
- 3200mAh battery
- Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
The LG Optimus L5 II includes the following specs:
- 4-inch display (480 x 800 resolution)
- 1GHz processor (single core)
- 5MP rear facing camera
- 1700mAh battery
- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
There’s been no mention about availability or price, so for now we’ll just have to be patient. If Bell is getting these devices, then it’s likely other Canadian carriers will also be getting them. As always, stay tuned for more information. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s available.
Mobilicity is Trying Out Plan B
Mobilicity was not acquired by TELUS, we now know that much. As such, the company has kicked into gear Plan B, a recapitalization plan that will hopefully help the struggling provider back onto its feet. Apparently, Mobilicity owes nearly $450 million in debt with no way to pay it.
A funding company called Catalyst Capital Group is said to have “an active role in the restructuring.”
Debtholders were going to vote on the restructuring plan itself June 25th, but that date has been pushed back to “allow stakeholders the opportunity to review Industry Canadaguidelines.”
We’ll see what happens soon enough.
The Nexus 4 is Now Only $300 at Koodo Mobile
Koodo Mobile dropped the price of the Nexus 4 by $50, down to $300 total. More specifically, that’s for the 16GB model, and it’s about $59 cheaper than buying the device through Google Play.
Is it possible there’s a new device coming and that’s why there’s been a price drop? Anything is possible, but probably not because a new Nexus device would surely launch in the fall.
Canadian Galaxy SIII Getting Android 4.1.2 Update
As the title implies, the Galaxy SIII will be getting the Android 4.1.2 update which has the version number MVLDMF1. It will be available to consumers via OTA or the Samsung Kies desktop software and many probably already have it. Here’s what the update is said to include:
- Improved download speeds when HSPA+ network coverage.
- Proactively addresses instances where third party VoIP apps could interfere when dialing E911
- Multi-Window Support
- Gallery has been updated
- Improvement in the Camera app
The update is cropping up for customers on the following networks: Telus, Bell, Rogers, MTS, Koodo, Fido, and SaskTel. If you already have your update, go ahead and give a shout in the comments below!
Rogers Updates the Xperia S to Android 4.1.2
The Rogers variant of the Xperia S has been updated to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Labeled as build number 6.2.B.0.200 it includes several performance enhancements, OS changes, an improved camera, expandable notifications and more.
Anyone looking for the update will be able to get it OTA, or through Sony’s desktop software for Windows.
Verizon Interested in Canadian Spectrum
Supposedly Verizon is interested in acquiring WIND mobile and Mobilicity. The Glove and Mail reports that “two people familiar with the situation” have stated that Verizon is offering WIND mobile $700 million to come over to the dark side. If the deal goes through, Verizon will acquire 600,000 subscribers and operations in Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver.
Verizon is also said to be considering participating in the auction for Mobilicity which is scheduled to take place on January 14th, 2014.
Come One, Come All- TELUS Community Forum Now Open
TELUS has just launched a community forum, following suit of existing projects by Rogers, SaskTel and WIND mobile. Now TELUS customers can communicate with one another, and company reps. According to TELUS, the company wants to “create an active and engaged community of users who exchange ideas.” I’d be interested to see how many trolls are active on those forums. Man, I hate trolls.
The Forum will be categorized into devices, and additional topics including individual accounts or billing. If you want to participate go hit up TELUS’ website.
