Amidst all the Nexus 5 buzz flying around yesterday, Archos announced the European release of a new line of mid-ranged smartphones, called the Titanium range, which consists of the Archos 40, 45, 50 and the  top-of-the-range 53. The group of phones are similarly specced, featuring Android version 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), with the only real changes occurring in the display and battery departments.

The Titanium range begins with the Archos 40 offered at the €99($135) price point, with the Archos 45 and 50 being tagged at €129($176) and €149($203) respectively. The top-of-the-range Archos 53 Titanium is priced at €159($217). These are budget phones offering smart phone qualities, with screen sizes relating to the model numbers; starting with the  4-inch Archos 40, going all the way up into small phablet territory with the Titanium 53 boasting a 5.3-inch 854 x 480 display.

“Our new Titanium smartphones make daily life easy by providing everything you need wrapped up in a powerful, feature rich phone package with a price that is hard to beat,” says Loic Poirier, CEO of ARCHOS.

Archos has partnered up with MediaTek, who are supplying the Titanium range with their dual-core MT 6572 platform, which integrates a 3G+ dual-core processor with advanced Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and FM functionality as well as support for 3D Graphics, HD capable video and MediaTek’s Miravision display enhancement technology.

“MediaTek is delighted that Archos has chosen the MT6572 3G+ platform as the basis for its new Titanium range of smartphones,” said Siegmund Redl, Vice President and General Manager Corporate Marketing, Europe, at MediaTek.”The MT6572 offers an outstanding user experience on Archos’ Titanium range of smartphones.”

As you can see from the specifications chart, the Titanium range offers decent specs, though these are not phones that will challenge the Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 or the LG G2. They are targeted at the budget-conscious shopper.

Whilst Archos’ Titanium range has been announced and tagged with prices, there’s no word as yet as to the availability of the devices.
