Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 Hits 5 million Sold

Just in case you were beginning to think that phablet sales would plateau, Samsung’s CEO, JK Shin, has revealed that the Galaxy Note 3 is outstripping its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 2, in terms of reaching landmark sales figures. In its first full month of sales, the Galaxy Note 3 has sold over 5 million handsets, a figure that took the Galaxy Note 2 two months to achieve, according to Korean news outlet Hanooki . This achievement is all the more impressive when compared to the original Galaxy Note, which required 5 months to sell 5 million handsets, a milestone that was positively received at the time.

Unlike the Galaxy Note 2 however; which saw a fragmented roll-out, with the US carriers being slow off the mark to bring the model to market; the Galaxy Note 3 has seen a much more coordinated release, with the handset being made available to all the major markets simultaneously. This, coupled with Samsung’s huge marketing budget which ensures that every flagship Samsung product is brought to the public’s attention, is a huge factor in how Samsung manage to consistently improve sales of its handsets. With info-graphics such as these, you can get a good idea how just how meticulous the Samsung Marketing division is.

Contrary to what might be believed, Samsung’s high-end phones aren’t the biggest earners, because according to Samsung, who announced their 2013 third quarter earnings call earlier this week – operating profits hit $9.6 billion (10.2 million won) based on their CPU and memory chips sales as well as selling cheaper Galaxy handsets to emerging markets.

No sales figures have been released for the Samsung Gear smartwatch at present, though it is known that Samsung were hoping to sell 2-3 Gears for every 10 Galaxy Note 3s sold which, according to my very rough arithmetic, means Samsung may have sold around 1-1.5 million Gear smartwatches.
