Today, Verizon has released a new Over-The-Air (OTA) update, 12.15.10., for its newest Droid MAXX and Droid Ultra devices – two devices that are almost identical except for the battery size, with the MAXX weighing in with a 3500mAh battery and the Ultra with only 2130mAh battery. While this update is not bringing you Android 4.4 KitKat, by any sense of the imagination, it will help make using your Droid MAXX and Ultra a better device by not only giving the devices enhancements in the performance area, but also offers you a promotional offering for 50GB of free Google Drive Storage. Let’s see what this OTA update will do for your Droid MAXX or Ultra device:

KEY DEVICE ENHANCEMENTS

  • Google Drive is now preloaded with 50G promotion
  • Wireless charging UI has been enhanced for better connectivity
  • 4G LTE performance has been improved to support faster connection
  • Motorola Assist has been improved for better stability
  • Google Voice now returns cards with audible feedback when location setting is enabled
  • The latest version of NFLâ„¢ Mobile has been added
  • Viewdini has been removed as a preloaded application
  • Device now charges when connected to Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation

CAMERA ENHANCEMENTS

  • Sky Detection has been improved to lighten dynamic scenes
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR) has been tuned to trigger more frequently
  • Viewfinder has been improved for more consistent exposure
  • Automatic White Balance (AWB) has been improved for overall color enhancements

This update should help your 4G LTE connect faster and that is always big plus and this seems to be the case with a lot of devices as we are switching in and out of 4G LTE – sometimes you simply drop to 3G due to coverage areas, but you want you device to reconnect as smoothly and quickly as possible once 4G LTE is available. You finally get rid of one preloaded app, Viewdini, but Verizon added the latest version of NFL Mobile.

Another area of concern was the camera and it looks like Motorola has worked on making these two devices a better shooter for those of us that take pictures.  All four of the camera enhancements should make a huge improvement in the quality of your pictures.

The OTA update could arrive any day as Verizon rolls it out to all Droid MAXX and Ultra owners.  Let us know in the comments or on Google+ if you have received the updates and if you feel it does all that it promises to do.
