So now that we’ve seen the long rumored Nokia Android phone, rather three of them since Nokia announced a new line of devices at MWC this week which consists of the original Nokia X we had long suspected, and two other phones that are part of the Nokia X family, the Nokia X+, and the Nokia XL, what are everyone’s opinions? While none of these devices weighed heavily on performance based hardware or awesome specs, the devices in their own right are still pretty good given what they have on the inside. Not to mention the low cost price tag. The most damning aspect, if there is one, about the Nokia X is that it will be running a tweaked and altered version of the Android OS. It is the Android Open Source Project after all, which gives OEMs the choice to add in Google’s core apps and keep Android as is, or omit signing the licensing agreement set forth by Google and just build their own setup off of the base Android OS.
This is exactly what Nokia chose to do, and the results of what they developed weren’t too bad. They wouldn’t serve as viable option for someone who really loves the Android ecosystem though, at least not from an out of the box standpoint. If it were rooted however, well that’d be another thing entirely, since you could just sideload the Play Store and other Google core apps via a custom ROM. As it turns out, it’s not even the end of the week in which the Nokia X was unveiled and already it was rooted and is running the Android OS we know and love. Including the Play Store and all.
This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone as the developer editions of the Nokia X have been made available since the launch, which was the same day Nokia announced the phone the first morning of MWC in Barcelona. The word is that Root was made capable thanks to an app called framaroot. If you’re someone that was looking into the Nokia X as a cheap replacement Android phone or just something to have a solid backup should the battery die, you can now have that with the android apps and services that you’re used to having. Just make sure not to forget the app that was to make this possible. of course, there’s bound to be even more development in Nokia X rooting so it most likely won’t be the only tool to get the job done down the line.
