For quite some time now, we’ve been waiting to see the latest and greatest from Oppo, the Chinese manufacturer that was one of the first on the scene with a Full HD 1080p Display. Now, the company is back making a couple of firsts again today, with the announcement of the Find 7. Oppo’s next flagship is not only capable of taking 50 Megapixel photos, but it also comes with a Quad HD version, that features a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display, making Oppo one of the first companies to do either. The Find 7 is going to come in two versions, a “Premium” and a “Lite” version, the main difference being their screen resolutions, at either 1080p or 1440p.
Both variants of the device share one of the main features though, that killer 50-megapixel camera. Powered by a 13-megapixel Sony IMX214 CMOS, the device actually puts more than one image together to come up with the 50-megapixel file, which does sound a little like cheating, but the quality of the photos will speak for themselves. At 8,160 x 6,120, there’s more than enough image to work with and that’s not all this guy can do. Recording in 4K is a breeze at 30 fps, it can do slow-motion capture at 100 fps, 32-second long exposures for photos and there’s even a 5-megapixel f/2.0 shooter around front. All of this is made possible thanks to Oppo’s Pure Image 2.0 processing software, which creates those 50-megapixel 10MB files for you to drool over. An impressive camera, indeed and one that easily puts anything else out there on alert, making HTC’s UltraPixel look not-so-ultra.
The two versions will differ slightly on the inside however, with the “Lite” version of the device featuring 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 2,800mAh battery and of course, the 5.5-inch 1080p display. The Lite version of the Find 7 will cost $499 and for an extra hundred bucks, coming in at $599 is the Premium version features a Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 3,000mAh and yes, that gorgeous 2560 x 1440 display. The pair feature a lot of common ground however, both of them feature LTE for US, EU and elsewhere, a fancy notification light and a MaxxAudio plus Dirac HD audio chip for betting sounding music. Other than what’s on the inside, the Premium version will sport something of a fancier back panel, with a carbon-fiber design on it. Both versions also feature rapid-charging from 0 – 75 percent in around half an hour and a titanium-aluminum alloy frame that has five layers of thermal protection inside of tit.
Unfortunately, the Find 7 is launching with Android 4.3, which seems a little bizarre this late into 2014, and will feature Oppo’s own ColorOS 1.2 on top. The “Lite” version of the Find 7 is going on sale online all over the globe in April, with the advanced version not shipping until May or later, both versions cost $499 and $599, respectively.
