Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is off to a good start, with American consumers apparently picking up the device twice as fast as the Galaxy S4, but that doesn’t mean that Samsung is done for 2014, far from it. As well as the predictable announcement of the Galaxy Note 4 in the Fall, some more leaked model numbers are hinting that Samsung has a number of new devices coming to market later this year. As the infamous @evleaks has discovered, an upcoming Galaxy S5 Active could be headed to Sprint and AT&T has a couple of new model numbers pegged for release later this year.
Starting with the Galaxy S5 Active or “Sport” as it could be known, @evleaks has said that the SM-G860 is headed to Sprint and that it’s “likely a CDMA variant of the G870, which is the Active or Sport version of the Galaxy S5”, but that’s all we know about that for now. Last year, Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Active was only available on AT&T, so it could be that Samsung is looking to sell their slightly more rugged version of the Galaxy S5 to more than just one set of customers. Considering that the Galaxy S5 is already waterproof and dustproof – the main draws of the Galaxy S4 Active – we’re assuming that Samsung has something a little more exciting in this year’s version.
AT&T meanwhile, is pegged to get model numbers SM-G750 and SM-N910. The SM-G750 has already been spotted once or twice as a 5.1-inch 720p device similar to the Galaxy S5, and has become known as the Galaxy S5 Neo. This device could be a Galaxy S5 for emerging markets or for those that can’t afford the Galaxy S5 proper, much like the Galaxy Note 3 Neo was. Astute readers will have already noticed that the N9xx model number is familiar to the Galaxy Note 3’s model number of SM-N900, as such a small bump in the model number could mean an upgraded Galaxy Note 3 for AT&T. Perhaps a Note 3 with a Snapdragon 805 to compete with the G3 or extend the life of the Galaxy Note 3? Right now, these model numbers don’t tell us all that much, but if @evleaks has once again got his hands on solid information it at least tells us that Samsung is working on devices headed to market throughout the rest of the year.
