There’s a certain satisfaction to be experienced when owning one of the latest Android flagships, especially when the device is as stylish as the Sony Xperia Z2. And that feeling is only enhanced by the quality of accessories that Sony offers, the latest additions being the Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 and Wireless Charging Plate WCH10.
Lets talk about the Wireless Charging Plate WCH10 first. As you can see from the pictures in the gallery below, its quite minimalist, there are no unnecessary design features. Sony is aiming for a premium look in line with the Xperia Z2’s design language, and I would say that they’ve succeeded. As to function, well, it’s purely a flat circular device that you can rest your Xperia Z2 on to charge. Nothing more, nothing less. The Wireless Charging Plate produces up to 5w of power, and because it supports the Qi wireless standard, will wirelessly charge any Qi compatible device. According to Clove’s product page, the Wireless Charging Plate WCH10 will sell for £54.99 ($92), which is a little on the steep side. Stock is expected from June onwards.
The Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 (main picture) is a Qi wireless charging compatible flip-case, made out of a black or white premium PU leather, that promises to protect your Xperia Z2 smart phone from any objects that are loitering in your pocket. You can also use the cover as a stand by turning the device into landscape mode and placing on a flat surface to display your media at the optimum angle. Besides protecting your device from mishaps, the cover enables you to discard your charging cables by charging directly from the charging plate. Clove have the Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 priced at £69.99 ($117), although there’s no word on availability just yet. Just in case you were curious, PU leather is made out of the inner splits of the hide, and treated with a polyurethane coating that enables the leather to resist water penetration, as well as giving it a high fade resistance.
So that’s a couple of premium looking accessories that Sony has announced, with admittedly premium prices. For both the Wireless Charging Plate WCh10 and the Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 you would be down £124 ($207). That’s a hefty price for a cover and a wireless charger. Still, I say that as someone that baulks at spending more than £15 ($25) on any mobile phone accessory, so maybe I’m a cheapskate when it comes to accessories.
