HTC might have officially announced their more affordable version of the HTC One (M8), but Sony isn’t happy leaving HTC all of the limelight as their more affordable device has gone on sale in the UK today and the device seemingly holds its own against the new HTC One Mini 2. The Xperia M2 is an Xperia Z2 mini of sorts, at least in terms of design and look. The similarity between the M2 and the Xperia Z line of the devices is deliberate from Sony, we’re sure and delivers a good-looking device that holds some decent specs on the inside.

Sony’s Xperia M2 features a 4.8-inch 960 x 540 display, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. Where the One Mini 2 has the Xperia M2 beat is with the front-facing 5-megapixel camera, which is just a VGA shooter on the M2 as well as that 13-megapixel shooter that HTC went with. Still, the M2 has a lot going for it and while its nothing revolutionary, it’s a good-looking device that’s just 8.6mm thick. To see a Sony device like that be outclassed by the One Mini 2 in the camera department must be somewhat galling for Sony.

Pricing is where the Xperia M2 could win over customers, with it retailing for £240 unlocked on Amazon and many other online retailers. Better yet, the device can be had for absolutely nothing upfront on contracts with the vast majority of networks in the UK, either that or a small upfront fee and a very affordable contract. As the M2 is a 4G-capable device, networks like EE have a range of contracts they’re hoping to entice 4G fanatics with. Is the Xperia M2 something you’re interested in? How does it shape up against the new Moto G 4G, which is to cost just £150 unlocked? Let us know what you think in the comments and over on Google+!
