Every phone has at least one unique feature that can help separate it from the crowd.  HTC’s newest flagship, the HTC One M8, launched just a few months ago now, and it had well more than one unique feature to catch users attentions to try and sway them from the competition.  Among a myriad of hardware and software features, HTC launched a new series of cases to not only help protect your screen but also to give you notifications without having to open the cover.  The HTC DotView case is a unique twist on a type of persistent notification popularized by Motorola with the MotoX, where the phone would “breath” the notification on the screen without having to actually turn your screen on to see the whole thing.  This gives you a great look at what someone sent you without having to use the battery power that turning your whole screen on.  HTC’s implementation is similar, showing you the time in a huge font and then showing the icon of the app that gives the notification, and even sometimes a very small preview of what the notification says, but it does this through the dotted lens of the DotView case.

The biggest problem with the DotView case was that it was restricted to a certain number of apps.  Much like Samsung’s Galaxy Gear was when it was first released, the DotView case supported a handful of apps and nothing more, making the case effectively useless unless you use those restricted apps.  Given that Android is an open platform many were annoyed with this, and now there’s a way to get DotView opened up to every app you’d like.  It’s a mod called Venom DotView Notifications, and it’s available to all HTC One M8 users that have rooted their phones, are running a deodexed ROM and have signature verification disabled.  While that sounds like a lot you’re most likely already covered if you’re running a custom ROM.  The app works a lot like the Galaxy Gear’s notification app if you’ve ever used that before.  Simply open the app and scroll through the list of available apps installed on your phone, check the box next to the ones you want to see on the DotView case, turn your phone off and profit.  The mod works as well as it looks, and this gives DotView users a great reason to celebrate.  Check out the XDA Developers page here, or at the source link below, and let us know how you like it!
