Back at CES, we were all drooling over the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G when Huawei announced it. One of the coolest features was that it could charge other devices with it’s massive battery. Well the Ascend Mate 2 is finally over here in the US, in the newly opened Huawei US store. I reviewed the first Ascend Mate and I was quite impressed with the build quality, and the battery life, although the software was another story.

For those that need a refresher, the Ascend Mate 2 offers a 6.1-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. It’s also got a 13MP BSI unit on the back and a 5MP front-facing shooter. It’s running Android 4.3 as well and features a 3990mAh battery inside. It also sports Huawei’s Emotion 2.0 UI. It does support 4G LTE, and since this is the US variant, it should work with all the LTE bands for T-Mobile and AT&T. Unfortunately it won’t work with Verizon or Sprint due to CDMA.

You can pre-order the device now from gethuawei.com, and it should be on your doorstep by June 22nd. Selling this monster for just $299 is pretty amazing. But one has to remember that it’s not really a high end device, that’s evident by the Snapdragon 400 powering this beast. But with a 720p display, and that massive 3990mAh battery inside, it should last you a few days if not longer. It’s definitely a quality device, and it’s great to see Huawei making a push into the US. After we just saw their neighbor, ZTE, announce the Grand S Pro for US Cellular. Now it’s Huawei’s turn for the spotlight in the US.
