Verizon to Offer Sony Xperia Z2 "D6503" Exclusively, Middle of Next Quarter?

Sony have a poor record when it comes to getting its handsets offered by carriers in the US, and so far, the Xperia Z2 is no different. Despite having been launched in Europe and other parts of the world back in early April, the Z2 is still not available from carriers in the states. There are reasons to hope this might change though, firstly with Sony themselves ‘accidentally‘ leaking a Verizon branded Z2 on Google plus, and then just a few days later, another leaked picture appearing with the Z2 showing off its waterproof capability.

The latest reason to believe that the Xperia Z2 will soon be available from Verizon (possibly as an exclusive) comes courtesy of @evleaks, the prolific leaker of all things mobile, who has reassured Verizon customers that their “Wait for the Sony Xperia Z2 will not have been in vain.” @evleaks went on to say that the reason the Z2 is taking so long to become available is that Verizon have ordered a variant of the Z2 with an updated modem that supports LTE-Advanced and quite possibly also supporting the VoLTE standard. The LTE-A variant is said to be model D6503, with the Sony Sirius ‘Viv’ codename. After undergoing the various certification checks and testing procedures, the Verizon Xperia Z2 is believed to launch around the middle of the next quarter, so keep your eyes peeled from August onwards.

If the latest leak comes true, which is quite likely considering @evleaks track record, this could be a sign of Sony finally getting it’s act together with regards to making its handsets more easily available in the states. Having more choice is never a bad thing, but have Sony and Verizon left the rumoured Z2 launch too late considering that the hype machine has already started regarding the updated ‘Prime’ versions of the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and LG G3 being developed? Have you been waiting patiently for the Z2 to be released? Or is this leak a case of too little, too late? Have you already lost all hope and gone with a different flagship?
