Today, Google Drive announced on Google+ that the home screens for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides on the web have been updated to use material design. Now we can all jump for joy and hashtag it #materialyolo. According to Google’s post on Google+:

Home screens for Docs, Sheets, and Slides are officially here!

Now when you visit www.google.com/docswww.google.com/sheets, orwww.google.com/slides, you’ll find an easy way to get back to your most relevant and recently edited documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.”

You can still easily create a new document from the big “+” button on the lower right-hand side of the screen. You can also switch from Docs, Sheets and Slides by hitting the Hamburger menu on the left side and switching to another part of Google Drive. I’ve been using the new home screens for a few minutes now and really like the changes, and of course love the new UI. You’ll also see all your recently opened or created documents in a card view on the page. There is a menu or 3-dots icon there that you can click and it’ll allow you to rename, remove or open in a new tab. It’s really simple to navigate and it looks awesome, with material design implemented.

Hopefully now that Google Drive has begun implementing Material Design into it’s apps, we’ll start seeing more Google products get materialized in the near future. I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping that we see everything go material design in the very near future, as it is a beautiful design and can adapt based on the size of the display you’re using. How many of you are loving the design of the new Google Docs, Sheets and Slides home screens? Definitely looks much nicer now. Let us know in the comments down below.
