Just last week, NVIDIA announced their Shield Tablet, which had been rumored and leaked out many times ahead of its announcement. In fact, it was completely leaked out a few days ahead of the announcement. However, it is available beginning today, in the US, UK and a few other countries. It’ll be hitting more countries over the coming weeks. It’s basically a great looking and highly spec’d 8-inch tablet at a great price. Which can also do some pretty amazing gaming. It’s powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra K1 processor, which was announced earlier this year at CES. It’s got a 1920×1200 resolution IPS display, so it’s pretty decent display for gaming, as well as Bluetooth 4.0, 2GB of RAM, and a 5MP camera. It comes in both 16GB and 32GB models as well as both WiFi and LTE models.
The best thing about the Shield Tablet is that it’s not just a gaming machine, but a full Android tablet as well. That was the biggest issue with the NVIDIA Shield from last year. Was it was a great handheld gaming machine, but that was about it. Sure it had stock Android on there and such, but it’s not really useful on that 5-inch display. Especially since it couldn’t make phone calls. However, this year’s offering from NVIDIA is much better, I think. The Shield Tablet also has an optional game controller which is about $60, still not a bad price though. The WiFi model is $299 and the LTE model is $399. Which it’ll likely only be available via unlocked, and not on any carriers, which is both good and bad for NVIDIA.
The NVIDIA Shield Tablet is available now from Amazon for $299 along with the game controller for $60. Which we’ve got links below where you can grab them.
