In Google’s latest attempts to boost advertising for small businesses, their video website Youtube, has acquired mobile Video app, Directr. If you haven’t heard of Directr, the app offers two iOS apps. One app is focused around everyday users, while the other app is for small business to create short marketing videos to post online. As of right now Directr charges for most versions of its app but it is said by Google that all versions of the app will be free once the start-up joins Google.
Google wasn’t the only one who broke the news, Directr came out on their blog sharing the exciting information as well. “Our small band of scrappy film lovers set out 2 years ago to help regular folks make great video. Today, we are incredibly excited to take the next step on that journey and announce that we are joining the video ads team at YouTube,” said the post. They later added, “For now, everything you love about Directr is staying the same and we’ll continue to focus on helping businesses create great video quickly and easily. One immediate bonus: Directr will soon be all free, all the time. Thanks, YouTube!”
This latest acquisition that Youtube has made is an example of how Google wants to add tools for small businesses to help them create more ads to run across the internet. Google has a site geared toward helping small business get noticed on the internet. The tools can be found on Google’s business site which can be accessed here. Youtubes acquisition will more than likely be added to the list of tools for small business to use. Both Youtube and Directr have not confirmed a price for the buyout. All we really know is that the employees of Directr are excited to join forces with Youtube, as the current Directr staff will join YouTube’s video ads team.
