Samsung’s Galaxy Alpha hasn’t been officially launched yet, but its already up for pre-order in the UK via the online retailer Mobilefun with a relatively hefty price tag of £549 ($923). While Mobilefun was originally showing an image of the Galaxy Alpha that had the Sammobile watermark, this has now been removed. The appearance of the Galaxy Alpha product page could very well tie in with the story that Cory wrote last week about the Galaxy Alpha being officially announced on August 4th. Maybe.
The Galaxy Alpha’s product page shows a slew of specifications, beginning with the Octa-Core Exynos processor providing the muscle. The rear-facing camera is a 12MP sensor with a ‘Selective Focus’ feature, offering the user the ability to create shallow depths of field for those out-of-focus pictures. Real-time HDR is also present, fore-going the necessity to wait until the image has finished processing in order to see it. One of the more usable features is the super-fast Auto-Focus, with a shutter-time of just 0.3seconds, which should go some way to avoiding those dastardly blurred shots. The seemingly ubiquitous finger-print scanner is also present. There’s plenty of space to store those photographs with the 32GB of internal storage and you can send them to your favorite cloud storage speedily thanks to its 4G/LTE connectivity.
As for the screen, well, this is where things go awry if the specifications are to be believed, with a 4.7-inch Super-AMOLED display with a 1280 x 720 resolution and 320 ppi. It’s difficult to believe that a handset that is being touted as a premium device with a higher price-tag than the S5 would have such a low-resolution display. As is customary with leaks, a pinch of salt or two is required, and it’s entirely possible that these specifications are purely what the retailer has gleaned from previous leaks, or it could be that Mobilefun has received the official specifications and is just the first to put up a pre-order page.
Despite being available to pre-order, Mobilefun don’t say when they are expecting stock of the Galaxy Alpha, but they have a good reputation in case you are thinking of ordering from them.
