It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like Google Voice and Hangouts integration is finally here. This morning we saw a few posts that options were popping up in Hangouts and Google Voice to merge your texts with each other. And now according to Tech Crunch, a new version of Hangouts is rolling out over the next couple of days to bring full integration with Google Voice and Hangouts.

The update to Hangouts brings it to version 2.3 (sorry we don’t have an APK yet, but as soon as we do, we’ll be sure to share it) and it brings  more than just Google Voice integration and VoIP calls. It also brings Material Design to Hangouts. Which is something that Google talked about at Google I/O this summer. And judging by the screenshots, it looks amazing. According to Google’s blog post, this is how you enable Google Voice integration:

“To get started on Android, just grab the new version of Hangouts (v2.3, rolling out over the next few days), then install the accompanying dialer to turn on voice calls. On iOS and the web, voice calls will be available the next time you open the app.”

This is all really exciting for those of us that use Google Voice. Which is just about everyone that is a device reviewer like myself. It’s great to see Hangouts and Google Voice finally merge. Although there’s still nothing about it expanding outside of the US which is a bummer right now. Hopefully we’ll see Google Voice go worldwide after this integration is complete. How many of you still use Google Voice as your main phone number? What are your thoughts on the Google Voice and Hangouts integration? Let us know in the comments down below.

As soon as we get the Hangouts APK, we’ll be sure to add it into this post.

Update: We has APK!
