By now, we are all quite familiar with Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise, from the very first installment simply called Angry Birds that was the hottest property in games to this year’s turn-based RPG called Angry Birds Epic! Today we finally see the release of the much teased Angry Birds Stella. There are lots more images in the galleries below as well as a gameplay trailer.
What is Stella and what can we expect from the latest episode in the Angry Birds saga? Well, to start with, we have some new characters, starting with the main protagonist called Stella. The story begins with Stella chilling in her tree-house on Golden Island, and what should happen? A nasty Minion Pig swoops in through the skylight and steals Stella’s scrapbook, her most prized possession. Stella suspects that Gale the Bad Princess is behind that smash and grab, and so she recruits her four best friends and sets off on an odyssey to retrieve her property and wreak havoc on the Bad Princess and her Minion Pigs.
Angry Birds Stella’s claim to fame is that each character has special superpowers that can be activated after being propelled from the slingshot. You can also get Telepods characters to teleport directly in to gameplay. Various versions of Stella and her friends can be found, each with different abilities. It has to be said that the pigs have achieved new levels of cheekiness in this game.
Rovio say that they have introduced a new level of graphics to the franchise with the release of Stella, and it all looks and feels very slick. As you progress in the game, you can complete your very own scrapbook depicting your adventure. There are over 120 levels, which should keep you or the young ‘uns busy for quite a while, as you attempt to earn three stars for every level. As usual, the game starts off nice and easy to get you in to the swing of things, but then gets progressively more difficult as you get deeper in to the game.
Angry Birds Stella is free to install and play, but bear in mind there are In-App-Purchases where you can buy extra coins in order to have an extra shot on a particular level. So far I haven’t reached the point where its needed, but I suppose this will become more apparent further into the game. I haven’t seen any advertisements in the game either as yet.
After playing the first ten levels, I can tell you that it feels like a return to the quality gameplay that the first few installments offered, fun and time-consuming, and straight-forward to play with fewer gimmicks than the later episodes. Don’t let the pinkness of the main character Stella fool you, this is a game for everyone, irrespective of gender.
Angry Birds Stella is available on the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, from Nook apps and even BlackBerry world. And if you simply must, you can even get it from Apple’s App Store.
