IFA had some pretty neat stuff to unveil this week. One of the many devices that was shown to us was the Galaxy Note Edge, which is a Note 4 with a screen on the edge. The idea of such a device isn’t new, but with Samsung being the first to deliver such a handset with a screen on the edge gives Samsung the innovative check. But what about where this device sits on the benchmark list? Compared to its predecessor, the Note 4, the Edge only differs with the slim screen that runs along the side of the device.

To really get where we’re going with this, we want to see where the Edge is sitting performance wise. To start off, we’ll compare the Edge to the Note 4 which has many things in common as is. Both have a power-laden SoC and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 that clocks in at 2.7GHz. Performance of the  Note Edge can be lagged due to a Adreno 420 graphics card inside. The reason for that is because the Note Edge has to power a pixel dense, Quad HD display. With these factors thrown in, the Note Edge may very well in fact just perform as well as the Note 4. Luckily, phoneArena has provided some benchmark information to look at which does clarify where the Note Edge stands as far as performance.

Starting off with the Vellamo Metal benchmarks, the Note Edge and Note 4 rank towards the bottom of the list. The Note 4 does beat the Edge with a score of 1136 while the Note Edge is sitting as the bottom with 1118. Moving on down to the GFXBench T-Rex HD-On-Screen, the Note Edge yet again ranks the lowest with just 12 while the Note 4 out shines its with 26.5. Last but not least we will move on down to the GFXBENCH MANHATTAN ON-SCREEN which again has the Note Edge sitting at the very bottom with just a 5.1. Now keep in mind that these are just early benchmarks. The performance of the Galaxy Note Edge can change once Samsung beings to roll out the handsets for mass production. As of right now, this is where the Note Edge sits at performance wise.
