Sony just unveiled their new flagship device, the Sony Xperia Z3, at their IFA event in Berlin. Many would call it an iterative update to the Xperia Z2, and they wouldn’t be wrong. The Xperia Z3 has a very similar specs to its predecessor, though it’s significantly thinner and it does come with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. Let’s go over its specifications.

Xperia Z3 is sporting 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Triluminous display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz (slightly higher clock speed than the Z2). The device comes with 3GB of RAM inside for your multitasking needs and 16 or 32GB of internal storage which is expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB. 20.7-megapixel camera (1/2.3” sensor) is located at the back of the device with a 2.2-megapixel shooter placed on the front side of the device. 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm are the dimensions of the device, it is somewhat thinner than the Z2, as I already mentioned. Xperia Z3 is packing a non-removable 3100mAh Li-Ion battery and comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat pre-installed (with Sony’s UI on top of it). The device weights 163 grams. The device also has IP65 and 68 rating which makes it water and dust resistant, it can go under water below 1m of depth. Usual array of sensors are included in the device along with Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

As far as network support goes, Xperia Z3 supports the following bands (support will vary, depending on the market): 2G: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900; 3G:  850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100; 4G (LTE): 700 / 800 / 850/ 900/ 1000/ 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600

Talking about software, Xperia Z3 comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box with all the belonging Google services pre-installed. Though Sony did skin Android and put its own skin on top of it which brings Sony’s usual array of apps and a completely different UI look. Sony gallery, Sony Video Player etc. Xperia Z3 might be just the iterative update, though that doesn’t change the fact this is a great device. It may seem a bit odd Sony didn’t include the Snapdragon 805 processor in the Xperia Z3, I do believe the 801 packs a lot of power to serve you for a long time. Your thoughts?
