Android 5.0 Lollipop Final Developer Previews Now Available

Featured image for Android 5.0 Lollipop Final Developer Previews Now Available

We were told earlier this week when Google announced the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 (don’t forget the Nexus Player) that there would be final developer previews of the newest version of Android available. Which is now known as Android 5.0 Lollipop. They are now available, as well as the SDK. We got the first developer preview a few days after Google I/O earlier in the summer. And it was updated in August with some Google Fit goodness. And now we’re seeing the final developer preview for Android L or Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google hasn’t told us how much is new in these latest developer preview builds, but we do know that these are the final API’s for Android 5.0. Which should definitely help out developers in getting their apps ready for Android Lollipop.

It’s important to remember that these developer preview builds are not stable. They are exactly what they are named, developer preview. Which means there are likely plenty of bugs being worked out in these, and some things will likely still change before Android 5.0 Lollipop is rolling out in a few weeks. It’s also important that we stress that this is NOT the final version of Lollipop that many will see on their Nexus devices. Speaking of Lollipop. Google hasn’t confirmed, officially, when the OTA’s will start rolling out. They are just saying “In November”. However, we heard from a few sources yesterday that the update will be on it’s way to the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 on November 3rd, with other Nexus devices and Google Play Edition devices following later on in November. And as usual, the OTA’s are going to be slow, as Google wants to be sure there are no issues. We don’t want what Apple did with iOS 8.0.1 where they killed cellular connectivity for everyone that updated.

How many of you are going to flash these developer preview builds even though you aren’t a developer?
