India’s budget smart phone market might be fiercely contested, but here we have the latest effort from Celkon, attempting to bring something slightly different to the party. This isn’t the usual smart phone with a sub 5-inch display that we often see aimed at the budget market. Instead, Celkon’s Xion S CT695 is a phablet with a massive 6.95-inch display and is being offered for just Rs. 7,499 ($122) which seems somewhat of a bargain.
Let’s have a look at what the Celkon Xion S CT695 has to offer. There’s no avoiding that massive 6.95-inch display which has a 1024 x 600 resolution. The muscle is provided a Dual-Core Cortex A7 Processor that is clocked at 1.2GHz of unknown origin, with a Mali 400 GPU providing the graphics. There’s 1GB of RAM present, with 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 32GB thanks to the included Micro-SD card slot. Connectivity wise, the Xion S CT695 offers 3G, WiFi B/G/N, Bluetooth, GPS and USB On-The-Go (OTG) support. Gravity and Proximity sensors are apparently present. Naturally, being a handset aimed at the India Market, there is support for Dual-SIM’s as well. Storing the power is a 2,500mAh battery unit. On to the Camera, and here we find a 5MP camera on the rear panel, with a front-facing camera of unknown specification. The Cellan Xion S CT695 comes with Android version 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.
So there we have it. There’s no denying that the Celkon Xion S CT695 handset is a monstrously sized phablet with its 6.95-inch display. But let’s not discount it as a valid option if you are in the market for a budget device that fulfills both the smart phone and tablet functions. And when you consider the more than competitive price of Rs. 7,499 ($122), it might be well received by the budget conscious shoppers among us.
