It’s certainly been a fun few months in terms of releases. It seems almost every other day recently a new device is being launched, or hitting the FCC or about to open for pre-orders. With so many devices currently expected to hit soon the speculation is rife. However, none of that speculation is as rife as what which surrounds the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. To be fair a device this unique was always either going to be at the forefront of the news or a flash-in-the-pan. With this being a Samsung device the former was always the more likely. Even without the Samsung attached tag though the Note Edge really is a strange one.

Specs of the Note Edge are generally inline with that of the Galaxy Note 4 including 3GB RAM and 32 and 64GB internal memory variants. They also are both powered by a Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor (clocks at 2.7GHz). Similar to the Note 4 the device comes with a 16MP rear camera and a 3.7MP front shooter and runs on android 4.4.4 (KitKat) with a Samsung UI on top. Minor differences between the two include a 3000 mAh battery on the Note Edge compared to the Note 4’s 3220 mAh battery. In addition the Note Edge also comes with a slightly smaller display measuring 5.6″ (compared to the Note 4’s 5.7″ screen). The bigger difference however and what makes the Note Edge the ‘Edge’ is its curved edged additional display. This has been what has caught most of the headlines.

Although one thing that has caught possibly more of the headlines is the availability and release dates of the Note Edge. Apparently this is only a limited edition concept device and with that in mind it is expected that only one million units worldwide before the end of the year. In spite of limited availability rumors and speculation have emerged suggesting the device is set to launch in the US (all carriers), Australia, the UK, South Korea, India and Japan. It now seems the last of these regions, Japan is certain to receive the Note Edge. In fact the latest news is that the Edge will be on sale in Japan via NTT DoCoMo (Japan’s largest carrier) on October 23rd which is this Thursday. The press release by DoCoMo does not provide too much information on the launch except that it will be available on October 23rd along with the Sony Xperia Z3. The only other details worth noting is at first only the black variant will be available with the white version expected sometime in November.
