Recently, Google released its Google Fit APIs that are now available on Android, Android Wear and the internet so users can build and publish apps on Google Play. The Google Fit platform allows users to have one place to keep all of their fitness activity. With a user’s permission, Google Fit will store and read the user’s data and build powerful and useful fitness experiences of its user. RunKeeper will even let users keep track of fitness goals, track their pace during a run or jog, and track other workouts. With the recent launch of the Google Fit platform, Google hopes to unleash a world of innovation in fitness apps, devices and technology that will encourage users to have a more active lifestyle.
In order to expand the idea of a fitness regime, active lifestyle and to help users have a comprehensive understanding of their level of fitness, Google has announced a challenge, in partnership with Adidas, Polar, and Withings: The Google Fit Developer Challenge. Google invites everyone to create and showcase an app, or update an existing app, which integrates the use of Google Fit. Entries must be submitted by February 17, 2015. Pre-selected judges will choose up to six new apps and six existing apps for Fit, as the winners. What are they looking for? Judges will scrutinise apps for innovation, fun to use aspects, features that keep users coming back for more, the offer of a real benefit for users, and of course apps that meet the Android design and quality guidelines.
The winners of the Google Fit Developer Challenge will be featured on Google Play for Android users around the world. Runners-up don’t go away empty handed with prizes including smart devices from Google, Adidas, Polar and Withings in the hopes that they will continue to improve their fitness apps with the latest hardware.
