Google Voice integration with Hangouts finally came to Android a couple of months back and it has been wonderful ever since. The only thing that had been missing since the initial integration was MMS support for Google Voice but that was quickly patched in, albeit on a select group of carriers, which included 100 different carriers throughout the North American region where the integration was rolling out. At the time this included AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint here in the U.S., but oddly enough not Verizon Wireless. For whatever reason VZW’s network wasn’t getting the MMS support for Google Voice like the other carriers. Even though that may have been a disappointment to some it looks like today that is finally changing.

Users on the Verizon network have been reporting that MMS support with Google Voice is starting to come through on their devices, which should make consolidating your message applications a little easier. Without the MMS support if you were using Google Voice as your primary means of messaging, you would have to use a different app to cover the sending and receiving of MMS messages.(pictures)Now that MMS support seems to be coming through you can use your Google Voice number for incoming and outgoing texts and picture messages, all while being integrated into one app, Hangouts.

Droid Life is reporting that a source confirmed to them that MMS support with Google Voice should now be working, so if you use Google Voice on Verizon try sending a couple MMS and see if you can get a couple back, and let us know whether or not things are working fine and dandy. As some users seem to have been getting MMS through to their devices over the last couple of days, it would appear that the support had started arriving over the weekend, and is continuing to reach all Verizon subscribers as we speak. It’s possible that your device may not yet support it, and if that’s the case we recommend to just give it a little time and things should be working smoothly soon enough. Do you use Google Voice through Hangouts exclusively now or do you still manage your messages through a couple different apps?
