CES 2015 might be less than a month away (can you believe it?), but we are still seeing products launching that were first announced back in September at the IFA in Berlin. Here we have Lenovo announcing that their TAB S8 tablet will be available in India exclusively from Flipkart for Rs. 16,990 ($274).

So what do you get for Rs. 16,990? Well, firstly, the TAB S8 packs an 8-inch Full HD IPS display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and 283 ppi. An Intel Atom Quad-Core processor clocked at 1.86GHz provides the grunt for the TAB S8, and there is 2GB of RAM for multi-tasking. 16GB of internal storage is present, which can be expanded by up to 64GB via the included Micro-SD card slot. As you may have noticed from the images, the TAB S8 has dual front-facing speakers that use Dolby technology. It’s a growing trend among tablet manufacturers and should provide good sound when listening to music or watching videos. There is a 3.5mm audio jack included as well. The TAB S8 weighs in at a very reasonable 299 grams, with dimensions of 209.8 x 123.8 x 7.9mm making it slightly shorter but 1.5mm thicker than the Sony Z3 Tablet Compact while being just 0.2mm wider. The battery has a capacity of 4,290mAh, with an estimated standby time of 16.5 days. The TAB S8 will run Android version 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

There’s a 1.6MP camera with fixed focus on the front of the tablet for video chat and selfies (although I’m not sure how comfortable it will be holding an 8-inch tablet in front of your face), with an 8MP camera with Auto-Focus and LED flash on the rear-panel. The Lenovo TAB S8 offer support for WiFi bands b/g/n, as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

The TAB S8 also has a micro-SIM slot, allowing you to access data from your favorite network while you are out and about. The TAB S8 is compatible with 2G/3G as well as LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20. On top of that, the TAB S8 is capable of being the only device you carry around, thanks to its ability to make voice calls like a normal smart phone. It may be a little weird holding up an 8-inch tablet to your ear though, so it’s probably best to either conduct the call via a Bluetooth headset or through the dual front-facing speakers. As stated previously, the Lenovo TAB S8 is available exclusively from Flipkart in India for Rs. 16,990, and only in  Ebony black. In the box you should expect to find the TAB S8, data cable, earphones, wall charger and the usual quick start guide and warranty paperwork.
