It seems that with every day we see a new handset (or two) being launched in India, to try and take advantage of their fast-growing smartphone market. And today we have XOLO rolling out its stylish Omega handsets that are available in two different sizes. There’s some more images in the gallery at the end of the article, but let’s take a look at the hardware first.

Both the Omega 5.0 and 5.5 share a number of hardware components, starting with the MediaTek MT6592 True Octa-Core processor. 1GB of RAM is available for multi-tasking, and there is 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded upon via the included MicroSD card slot. The Omega 5.0 and 5.5 share the same aesthetics, black bezels on the front of the device, with a metallic silver trim on the sides, with a black plastic rear panel. Naturally both the handsets will share the same software, utilising XOLO’s HIVE interface, the latest version of which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat, although XOLO have stated that work on an Android 5.0 Lollipop version has begun. Both the 5.0 and the 5.5 have a 2MP front-facing camera for video chats and the inevitable selfies. Seeing as XOLO is targeting the Indian market, it makes sense that both phones offer Dual-SIM support. The usual WiFI b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS connectivity options are also included as well as a 3.5MM audio jack and FM Radio. XOLO has lined up some incentives to buy the phones, with the Omega 5.0 buyers eligible for 500MB of free data for two months from Vodafone, and Omega 5.5 buyers getting 1GB of free data for two months. Buyers of both phones can also use the Vodafone Music service free of charge for 2 months.

Now on to the differences. As you can probably tell from the name, the Omega 5.0 has a 5-inch display, using IPS technology and offering up a 1280 x 720 resolution. The Omega 5.0 comes equipped with an 8MP rear-facing camera with flash. The Omega 5.0 has the following dimensions: 144 x 72 x 10.5mm which means it’s 2mm longer, 0.5mm narrower and 2.4mm thicker than the Galaxy S5. And finally, there is a 2100mAh battery. The Omega 5.5 has a 5.5-inch IPS HD display, with a 13MP rear-facing camera and flash, along with a 2600mAh battery, there are no dimensions available for the Omega 5.5 as yet.

So how much will either handset set your back? Well, the Omega 5.0 is priced at Rs. 8,999 and is scheduled to go on sale from December 10. The larger Omega 5.5 isn’t too much more at Rs. 9,999, but it will only go on sale from December 20. Let us know what you think of XOLO’s Omega 5.0 and 5.5 handsets at our Google Plus page.
