Samsung’s Galaxy Note II was released in the Fall of 2012 which makes it one of the older devices from Samsung’s Galaxy Note line. Samsung has always had a decent record when it comes to supporting their devices, especially when talking about the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines. They’ve already started the rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop to a number of devices dotted throughout Europe like the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4, but to hear that the Galaxy Note II is to be updated is pretty extraordinary. Samsung’s official Twitter account for Poland may have just confirmed that the 5.5-inch device we all thought was humongous back then is to get the latest version of Android.

When asked by a user on Twitter if the Galaxy Note II is slated to get the update, Samsung’s Twitter profile responded that “Yes, our spokesman confirmed today during #GZR that the Galaxy Note 2 will receive the update. But we have no further information.” That’s a pretty big deal if it does come true, after all the Galaxy Note II will be three years old this Fall, and originally launched with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. The Galaxy Note II has proven itself to be a very capable piece of hardware over the years, no doubt thanks to the 2GB of RAM under the hood and a fairly powerful quad-core CPU made by Samsung themselves. We’ve seen custom ROMs deliver the Galaxy Note 3 experience to the ageing device and Samsung themselves seem set to deliver the latest version of Android to users.

If this turns out to be true, then Samsung will once again have proven they’re more than capable of taking care of their users when the hardware is capable enough. Having said that, the Lollipop update seems to be trickling down to a lot more devices from all manufacturers than we thought it would. Sony is updating their entire Xperia Z lineup and HTC is going as far back as the HTC One M7, which is about as good as it gets for HTC, really. Nevertheless, it looks like Galaxy Note II users need not throw away or sell their old device just yet.
