Buying a new smartphone can be a momentous occasion for the proud new owner. That said, the issue with buying a smartphone is that soon enough it will no longer be so new. In fact, given some time, it is no longer the current smartphone from the same manufacturer. Given a bit more time and that same device actually begins to stop receiving support, OTAs and updates from the manufacturer. This is the typical life cycle of smartphones nowadays. That said, it does not always have to be so. In fact, this is where many developers come in and bring to the table altered versions of current firmware which are backdated to allow compatibility with older devices. If you are a Sony Xperia device owner then you may already be familiar with Xperia Overlay. However, if you have yet to hear of them then you might want to take a minute to get to know them.
Xperia Overlay does make sure that older Xperia devices are offered the opportunity to update their current firmware to a much newer version. Back in the summer of 2014 we saw Xperia Overlay release their Version 1.0 which allows older Xperia owners to update their devices to the Android 4.4.2 firmware which was running on the Sony Xperia Z2. Well, it now seems they have updated their current offering to V2.0 and this one will take your device up to Android 4.4.4 and equivalent to that which is running on the current Sony Xperia Z3.
Now, the current V2.0 is designed for Xperia devices dating back to 2011 and 2012. As such, support is currently available for a number of models from 2011 including the Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo and Neo V, Xperia Ray and Xperia Pro. Not forgetting the Sony Xperia S from 2012 is also now supported. With the new update, you can expect an improvement performance, better CPU management, Improved battery life with Battery Stamina mode and an improvement in the audio quality.
