Today, Google is beginning to push out v5.8.1836R of the Google Play Music app. As usual it’s a staged rollout, so it might be a bit before you get your update. But don’t worry, we have the APK below, for you to sideload onto your device. However, if you do want to wait for Google Play to push it out to your device, that’s perfectly fine as well and you should see it in the next few days. Hopefully not weeks like some other apps.
This update to Google Play Music isn’t a huge one, but it does integrate YouTube and Google Play Music a bit more. Now we have YouTube Music Videos appearing in search. So for instance if you search for Pitbull, you’ll also find his music videos in the search results. Which is actually a really cool feature. Seeing as All Access subscribers also get YouTube’s Music Key, it makes sense to integrate these a bit more.
Google has also added a few new features – they even gave us a changelog, which isn’t normal for Google as they typically forget to add one. You can now see all of your albums in your Library without taping on the ‘More’ button at the bottom. Google has also improved the way album art is handled to make the app run even more smoothly. And that’s about it. While Google didn’t mention bug fixes and improved stability, I’m sure you can throw that in there as well. It’s just a small update over the v5.8 that rolled out last month, which is why it still fals under the v5.8.x numbers.
So you want to sideload the new update of Google Play Music onto your device? Well it’s quite easy actually. You just need to download the file that’s linked below onto your device. Now go into settings and under security make sure that “Unknown Sources” is checked. Once that is done, simply tap on the file you’ve downloaded and click on Install. It’ll take a few seconds, but should install the Google Play Music app, and overwriting/replacing the version that is currently on your device.
