In the midst of the official announcement for Android 5.1, HTC is said to be planning to update the HTC Desire Eye directly to Android 5.0.2 instead of Android 5.0.1. This is according to LlabTooFer, a Twitter user and HTC ROM developer known for posting leaks details about upcoming devices, software updates and the like in regards to Android and HTC. In addition, HTC has started rolling out the Android Lollipop updates for 2013’s HTC One M7 flagship as of today, to at least the unlocked models, while carrier versions like the T-Mobile version of the One M7 has been scheduled to receive the update to Android Lollipop starting tomorrow, March 10th.

So far, the HTC Desire Eye getting Android Lollipop is not official from HTC, although the phone is fairly brand new and was just released in November of 2014 so pushing the device up to Lollipop seems like a sound decision. When and if the HTC Desire Eye gets the Lollipop update is still unknown, and what Desire Eye specific changes would come along with the software upgrade if any, have also not been detailed. The HTC Desire Eye comes packing two 13MP sensors, one for the front facing camera and one for the rear-facing camera, 2GB of RAM and it boasts HTC’s signature Boom Sound stereo speakers on the front. All of the phone’s features and functions are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 processor, which is more than powerful enough to handle the specs of the HTC Desire Eye.

Questions are already arising as to whether or not this update would include the bump to HTC’s Sense 7 UI, which is the latest flavor of their own in-house skin placed on top of the Android software. Seeing as how Sense 7 was announced alongside the HTC One M9 at Mobile World Congress just last week Sunday on March 1st, it’s possible for the Desire Eye to get the new UI version, but not necessarily probable unless the update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is coming a little further down the road. Considering this, the HTC Desire Eye is probably bound to get the update to Sense 7 at some point, even if not when Lollipop initially rolls out.
