MWC has been a big affair so far this year with a number of key announcements coming though. However, if you cast your mind back to last year’s MWC event, then there was also some equally interesting announcements coming down the wire. While the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge might be considered the novel device of this year’s event, last year, the award of ‘most novel’ had to go to the YotaPhone 2. This was a follow-up device to the previous YotaPhone incarnation and generally attracted a good deal of attention. Largely, thanks to the dual screen nature of the device. While the YotaPhone 2 comes with a standard front facing screen, it also comes with a secondary rear-side e-ink display. The logic behind the second screen is that it can be a solution to the common not-enough-battery issue by displaying all your low-key information (notifications, updates, statuses and so on) on the e-ink side.

However, a year on from the unveiling at MWC 2014, the device has yet to fully roll-out everywhere. In particular, the YotaPhone 2 has yet to make it Stateside. That said, that does seem to about to be rectified although probably not in the way you would expect. The latest is that the YotaPhone 2 will be available in the U.S. soon although it will only initially be available via fund-raising platform Indiegogo. The device will be on sale through the fundraising site and will cost $600 to purchase. Typical of Indiegogo, it is thought early adopters (or backers) will receive a discounted price or free bumper case.

If you are thinking about picking it up when it is available, then the YotaPhone 2 will be compatible with both AT&T and T-Mobile and includes LTE support. The device is expected to be available via Indiegogo sometime in the Spring. It is also being reported that following on from the Indiegogo launch, the plan is to roll out the device availability to more third-party retailers with Best Buy specifically name-dropped. The YotaPhone 2 should have Android 5.0 (Lollipop) running by the time the launch occurs and the company announced they will also launch a white version of the device sometime in the summer. Are you planning on picking up a YotaPhone 2 when it lands in the U.S.? Let us know.
