Andy Rubin Just Raised $48 Million For His Hardware-Based Incubator

If you are on this website reading this article, then chances are that you are aware of who Andy Rubin is. But on the little chance that you don’t, Andy Rubin is the co-founder of the extremely popular mobile operating system, Android. Back in 2005 Andy Rubin sold Android to Google, who then took it and turned it into the modern and powerful mobile operating system that it is today. But Google did not do this all on their own, Andy was there every step of the way, working closely with the company to turn it into what he wanted it to be. Then, in October of 2014, Andy Rubin left Google.

Right after Andy left Google, everyone learned that he was working on a mysterious hardware-based incubator that he called Playground. People attempted to reach out to Google on whether or not they would be involved but unfortunately, Google declined to comment. Not only did nobody know if Google would be involved with Andy’s new venture, but nobody had any clue what would come of it. All anybody knew, and all anybody still does know, is that Andy’s incubator is and was hardware-based.

Andy Rubin has a love for robotics, which could be a dead giveaway as to what he is working on at his hardware-based incubator. Or, it could have absolutely nothing to do with robotics but at the point where Andy is at in his life, it is logical to think that he would finally be pursuing the big picture project pertaining to what he loves best. Whatever Andy Rubin is working on though, he just disclosed that he raised $48 million to fund it. He also announced that he is now a partner at Redpoint Ventures, a company that is certainly not new to investing. The company has invested in over 300 companies, and guess what, Andy Rubin’s Playground is one of those companies.

Now that a little more about Andy’s Playground is officially out in the open, it is only a matter of time before we learn what Andy is up to. Maybe he will change the world all over again.
