While all the talk of the last twenty four hours has been of this year’s Google I/O event, it does not feel that long ago when the last I/O event took place. In fact, as a measuring stick, this year’s I/O is likely to have a lot to live up to. This is largely because, last year’s event saw the introduction (or at least announcing) of a number of high-profile android entities. These, of course, included Android Auto and Android TV. That said, one of the biggest headline announcements came from Google back in October when they finally unveiled the latest incarnation of their operating system, Android 5.0 (Lollipop).

However, last year was not all software based from Google, as back in October and as well as introducing Lollipop, Google also publicly announced their latest hardware offerings. These came in the form of the Nexus Player (for Android TV), along with their latest Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 6 by Motorola and their latest Nexus tablet, the Nexus 9 by HTC. While all three, were Nexus based products, the last two grabbed much more of the headlines than they should have. One of the reasons for this was their corresponding launch pricing. Both the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 landed with a high price, at least compared to what the public has expected.

In terms of the Nexus 9, the tablet launched at $399 in the U.S. and also £319 in the U.K. In particular, for the UK market, a price in excess of £300 is a hefty sum to pay for a tablet. Not to mention that since the release, the Nexus 9 has begun to see a number of minor issues being noted based on its quality and seemingly lack of updates. Well if you are based in the UK and had been considering picking up the Nexus 9, but did think it was overpriced, then it looks like now might be a good time to pick one up. A number of retailers are beginning to see the price dropping down to £199. At this particular price-point, the Nexus 9 seems like a much more viable purchase. At the moment, the price drop has been noted online with both John Lewis and PC World (Currys as well, of course). For now, it is unclear as to whether more retailers will follow suit so if you are interested, it might be worth picking up sooner rather than later. Especially, if you plan to pick up the Nexus 9 via John Lewis (source link below) as they are currently only listing the price drop as available until tomorrow.
