Many owners of the Samsung Galaxy S6 can expect to soon find a pleasant notification waiting for them on their phones. A user in Europe has reported receiving a system notification prompting him to install a new over-the-air (OTA) update for Android that purports to deliver a load of bug fixes, additions and/or enhancements to software features, and improvements to device stability and performance. According to him, the update has fixed many issues he’s been experiencing with his S6 on an earlier version of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

This is great news that comes only a few days after Samsung officially acknowledged on its UK region Facebook page, that the Galaxy S6 was suffering from severe memory leaks and hobbled performance due to software-related issues that they have tried and failed to successfully resolve until now. The quick response following this acknowledgement is sure to be a welcome surprise to Galaxy S6 owners everywhere.

The Android version number of this update is 5.0.2, as it was for the Galaxy S6’s most recent firmware update from Samsung, but don’t let that fact mislead you, the changes incorporated into this new build are substantial. The file containing the update has a fairly large download size at 138.32MB, but it’s well worth the wait, if the positive experience of our friends in Europe is indeed the result of major improvements that are landed by this fresh build. Samsung in the update’s changelog was unspecific about the bevy of changes the update delivers, but it’s improbable that many people will be bothered by that fact – so long as their phones finally run as fast as the Galaxy S6’s slammin’ hardware is able to. (The build number of this update is G920FXXU1AODG, for those of you who are curious.)

If you’re a Galaxy S6 owner and have received the update, give us a shout in the comments and let us all know how well it’s running on your phone. If it doesn’t arrive immediately, have patience! OTA updates of this magnitude are typically rolled out in phases, to allow Samsung to manage the heavy load placed on their servers by the millions of Galaxy S6 handsets already in the wild.
