Businesses all around the world, will find new uses for wearable devices, which will aid and simplify the way their employees work. According to a new report by Tractica, in the year 2020, 17 percent of the total wearable sales will be directed towards enterprises and industrial markets around the world; while in 2013 these type of sales were made up of a mere 1 percent. This is a huge jump for only seven years, which means that the overall popularity and adoption rate of all kinds of wearable technology will soon spike. The company behind the report, also predicted wearable shipments to jump from 166,000 devices in 2013, to an impressive 27.5 million shipments in 2020. Aditya Kaul, Research Director at Tractica, revealed that one of the principal features that enterprises will take advantage of, is the hands-free nature of smartwatches, which will facilitate numerous processes in manufacturing companies; instead of bungling with their smartphone, employees can just glance at their wrist anytime they need information.
But the vision that Tractica predicted, will not be so easy to achieve, as there are a number of barriers that wearable technology must first overcome. One of the main concerns that enterprises face when considering the acquisition of any kind of new devices for their workplace, is security. Privacy inside a company is essential, and wearable manufacturers must look into solving this if they want to see Tractica’s forecast come to life.
