HTC released an interesting smartphone last year, while the flagship sported a beautiful design in aluminum and a main camera of questionable quality, the Desire Eye sported a polycarbonate body and a very interesting camera in the front. It occupies more surface in the front than any other camera from the competition and it is because its sensor has 13 megapixels of resolution for all those selfie aficionados and it even includes a dual-tone LED flash to take pictures in clubs and other low-light situations. The software has also been optimized to take advantage of this camera, as it recognizes the voice or a smile to snap a photo and it has enough editing options to make it a fun camera. This phone is one of the few from the company that has IPX7 certification, so in theory it could be submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes, although, strangely enough, the company does not recommend using it underwater. Oh, and the camera on the back uses a very similar sensor with the same LED flash, but that’s almost a standard, so it’s not that relevant.
Other specifications of the Desire Eye include the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory and a Micro SD card slot to expand it for an extra 128 GB. The display measures 5.2 inches and has Full HD resolution and the phone integrates some beloved technologies from HTC like the BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers. The design of the phone features two different colors, which would be refined and included in the HTC One M9.
The Desire Eye runs Sense 6.0 on top of Android 4.4, but the company communicated its plans to update to Lollipop. HTC was one of the most committed companies when it comes to this update, planning to update some devices as soon as 90 days after Google released the update. Ultimately, the company missed the deadline, but it wasn’t for that much and still, was one of the first to update to Android 5.0. Now, AT&T users of the Desire Eye will be able to update their devices as soon as today, it was communicated by Mo Versi, HTC’s product manager, but he didn’t specify which version of Lollipop will be received by the handset or the version of Sense that will run on top of it.
