The Android distribution numbers for June were just released two days ago and showed that Android Lollipop adoption had slightly increased. Last month, the distribution numbers showed that Android Lollipop was on just under 10% of devices. This month that number has increased to 12.4%, a slight increase, but an increase nonetheless. Device manufacturers are definitely making an attempt to get as many devices as they can updated to Android Lollipop. Samsung is not exempt from this and while their Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices came out of the box running Lollipop, it was not the latest Android version. This month though, it looks like that is going to change.
Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge owners have been patiently awaiting their Android 5.1 update. A decent amount of time has now passed since Samsung’s two newest flagship smartphones were initially released and it finally looks like that wait for Android 5.1 may be over. The folks over at SamMobile have had a preview build of Android 5.1.1 running on a Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge for awhile now. They say that the official update should begin rolling out to users this month and that there are quite a few smaller changes included in this update.
Some of the new features that SamMobile says are in the preview build of Android 5.1.1. for the Galaxy S6 are new camera modes, multi-user support, and the ability to disable the S Finder and Quick Connect buttons in the notification shade. There are some even smaller features also included in this update such as a new theme store button, a motion effect for your wallpapers, and an exposure control option for the camera. The folks at SamMobile were even nice enough to throw together a quick walkthrough video showcasing these new features on a Galaxy S6 running the preview build, which you can take a look at below. This at least will hopefully keep owners of the Galaxy S6 tied over until the update does begin to start rolling out to devices. Unfortunately, beyond the suggested timeframe of this month, there is no official word from Samsung as to when Android 5.1.1 will land.
