Google Drive updates with new Sharing Interface

Last night, Google decided to push out an update to their Drive app, pushing it to version 2.2.233. It’s not a huge update, but there are a few new features in this update. One being the new sharing interface. Instead of being a pop up, the sharing interface is now another page, and it looks like it’s a bit more material design, which Android fans will always love. The new sharing interface is pretty straight-forward actually.

Google has also added the ability to send and download multiple files at once. So you can send a number of files to someone at the same time, instead of having to do it one-by-one in the app. Definitely a nice touch. You can also download as many files as you want at once, well as much as you have space for on your phone. There isn’t a huge difference in the UI, but instead of having the star and trash buttons, you now have download and share buttons in the floating action bar at the bottom of the screen.

Other than that, it looks like Google has just thrown us some bug fixes and performance improvements on the new update to Google Drive. Not a bad update at all. The app is available in Google Play now, however it is a staged rollout, as usual with Google. So you may not see it available in Google Play right now. If you can’t wait and want to get the update now – instead of in a few days or even a week – we do have the APK for you, which is located at the bottom of this post.

For those that want to sideload the APK, make sure you go into Settings > Security, and check “Unknown Sources”. Now you’ll just need to tap on the APK you downloaded from the link below, tap Install, and within a few minutes you should be running Google Drive v2.2.233. Remember, it will replace your current version of Drive, so if you’re afraid of the new version might be buggy, it’s a good idea to back that up before hand.
