Huawei is one of the larger and better known Chinese OEMs. They’ve proven they are capable of building solid smartphones in the past and they recently announced the P8 lineup, which combines a good design made from premium materials with decent specs while putting a lot of effort and attention to its camera software. Also, who could forget about the Huawei Watch? It’s another example of the company’s new direction towards industrial design as it is one of the best looking smartwatches out there and its construction based on stainless steel and sapphire definitely helps it to feel good too.
Before those handsets were announced there was a mid-range phablet called Ascend Mate 2 which includes a very large screen at 6.1-inches with HD resolution and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor along with 2 GB of RAM. Probably its biggest selling point was its battery with the unprecedented capacity of 4,050 mAh even being capable of charging other devices. It was released over a year ago but still the company decided it would not be upgraded to Android KitKat which must have disappointed the users of this particular model.
However, the company then announced that it would be upgraded to a more current version of Android, namely, Android 5.0 Lollipop. Users must have rejoiced then as it is a much more significant update introducing a whole new design language that we’ve now got used to in Material Design. The update was supposed to get to this device in the first half of the present year and the company may be able to keep their promise as they have invited some users to test the new software. Let’s remember that the updating process, especially for Lollipop, has not been as easy as everyone expected, so at this stage, the software will need some correcting after the bugs or issues this might have. Still, the company claims that the launch date for the update is still sometime next month.
