Huawei Watch China Launch Delayed By Several Months

Google got involved in the smartwatch game back in 2014 with the release of the LG G Watch and Motorola Moto 360. Both of these smartwatches are running Google’s version of a watch operating system that they call Android Wear. Since then Google has partnered with many Android device manufacturers and even some actual watch makers to expand the list of Android Wear powered smartwatches. Now, about halfway through 2015 when Huawei is preparing to launch the latest Android Wear smartwatch, it looks like the device will be delayed in China.

Today the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Huawei Watch launch will be facing some significant delays in China. This comes directly from the mouth of Huawei’s wearables manager, Yang Yong who said that the delay is being caused by Android Wear itself. “We’re experiencing some problems with Google’s Android Wear in China,” said Yong. Said delay is expected to cause the Huawei Watch to launch in China several months behind schedule, meaning that customers in China waiting to get their hands on a Huawei Watch likely won’t be able to do so until next year. The other two markets where the Huawei Watch is expected to launch in the coming months are the US and Europe. Neither of these markets should be affected by these delays.

There is an upside to the Huawei Watch being delayed in China though, according to Yong. He says that Huawei has taken it upon themselves to treat the delay as extra time to slightly improve the overall design of the Huawei Watch. Two of the design improvements that Yong mentioned are a thinner and more classical looking device.

For those of you who aren’t aware, the specs of the Huawei Watch are as follows. It will feature a 1.4-inch 400 x 400 AMOLED display, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 300mAh battery. Something also worth noting is that the smartwatch will come with one of two different kinds of bands, a stainless steel band or a leather band. Of course, it will also contain all the usual goodies such as a gyroscope, Accelerometer, and Bluetooth 4.1.
