Instagram is rolling out a new update today to Android and iOS, that brings in a few new features that many have wanted. Which includes some new location search options as well as trending photos. With Trending Photos you have trending tags as well as trending places. Sorta like the trending tags that you’d see on Twitter. “Through trending Tags and trending Places, you can experience moments like #bonnaroo or #fathersday from every perspective. Rich visual content captures everyone’s unique take – not just what the community is talking about, but also what they’re doing and seeing” according to the company.
They’ve also improved search, according to Instagram’s blog post today:
“For everyone on Instagram, we’ve dramatically improved the ability to find what you’re looking for. With the new Places Search, you can now peer in at just about any location on earth, allowing you to scout out your next vacation spot in the South Pacific, get a look inside that hot new restaurant or experience your favorite music festival – even if you couldn’t make it this year. The new Top Search also lets you search across people, places and tags all at once.”
Both versions, for iOS and Android are v7.0 as of today. And they are available in Apple’s App Store as well as Google’s Play Store. You should be able to download the update now. When you do, be sure to follow Android Headlines on Instagram, to check out behind the scenes pictures as well as what reviews we are working on.
The Instagram app has seen some pretty big changes since it launched on Android. When it initially launched on Android, it looked more or less like an iOS clone, but it’s since grown up, which is nice to see. Instagram is owned by Facebook now, but you’d never really know it, as Facebook doesn’t really get in the way of what the Instagram team is doing with the service, which is obviously a nice touch. It’s main competitor is actually Twitter and Vine, which Vine hasn’t seen much in terms of updates lately.
