Medium is a platform dedicated to blog-publishing, created by Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone. Although since its launch in the year 2012 the service hasn’t gained that much momentum, it has earned a loyal user-base and has been praised by numerous people as the epitome of social journalism. Medium begun as a small platform that gave its users the ability to write and share longer posts than in the social media site, Twitter; today, Medium has become a hybrid website, where both professional and non-professional writers contribute to the content shown. Today, the platform finally released a native Android version of its app. Contrary to many applications released first to iOS, Medium is not just a port, it is a fully fledged application designed specifically for Android. Medium features numerous Material Design elements, including meaningful transitions and subtle animations.
Medium has one of the best content management systems when compared to the other major blog-hosting websites. Which is why a lot of Android users were eagerly waiting the release of a native Android version. Medium has also been praised by many because of its clean and crisp design, which many websites, such as TechCruch and The Daily Dot have taken design queues from. Unfortunately for the website, it hasn’t been adopted as much as its founders, Evan Williams and Biz Stone, would wish. Currently, the website is stuck between being recognized as a publisher or a CMS, just like WordPress is. Medium recently saw a decrease in the quality of its journalism in favor of a more social approach, where users can contribute as much as paid-writers.
Even if Medium is not as popular as it could be, it doesn’t mean that the company is not committed to its growth and continuous evolution, which is why the Android application was finally released. The Android version of Medium gives users access to a collection of stories based on the topics you’re interested in, it also allows users to easily save and manage their favorite applications. This release comes several weeks after the app went through beta testing inside a Google+ community. Medium will also add numerous features to the Android app to meet the always high standards of their users and to keep evolving as much as the website does.
