Nest is a well-known company dedicated to the creation of home automation products, like smart thermostats and smoke detectors. With a strong desire to further innovate in this area, Google acquired the company back in February 2014 for $3.2 billion. This led to a more seamless connection with the user, as it allowed Nest products to use Google’s knowledge to become way more intelligent and understanding of the user’s needs. All of these new features have come to already existing devices, without any new ones being even hinted; until recently. Nest purchased a security camera firm called Dropcam. The company behind the smart thermostat is reportedly close to announcing a brand new product in collaboration with Dropcam; this announcement might come as soon as next week, when Nest will host a press conference. Previously it was only hinted that Nest was going to launch a new piece of hardware, but new images have leaked showcasing a brand new product, called the Nest Cam.

After an FCC filing that surfaced last week, rumors began about the eventual launch of a new camera-related gadget from the Google-owned company, Nest. A Bluetooth-enabled camera was quickly discovered to be the somewhat anticipated product, which had been undergoing testing for at least three months. The upcoming Nest Cam will feature some rather hefty features, such as 1080p video streaming and the new and simpler setup process, already present in re-branded Dropcam Pros. Although these features might sound great, more details will appear as the press conference next week is closer. According to the FCC filing, the Nest Cam won’t be too different from the Dropcam Pro, at least when talking about the internal hardware.

The leaked Nest Cam images, show a new and sleeker design when comparing it to the Dropcam Pro. With Bluetooth LE 4.0 capabilities and the option to mount it to a wall, this new product will be easily configurable and programmable from any place where an internet connection is available. Along with the Nest Cam will come a complete overhaul of the Nest app, which allows users to control Nest products in a simple manner. The Nest Cam will also be the first product to be launched since the home automation company acquired Dropcam last year. Being powered by Google’s recent goal of creating a connected home, there is a possibility that more products will be announced in the press conference next week.
