Samsung revealed, a couple of months ago, a feature that would make your smartphone feel like it actually belongs to you and represents who you are. In collaboration with numerous user interface designers and programmers, the company launched a new service along with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which gives users the possibility to change the overall theme of their smartphone. This feature essentially allows users to change the look and feel of their own device to their liking by applying one of the many available themes from the Galaxy Theme Gallery; each theme comes with a hand-picked set of wallpaper, icons and other details, so that your device suits your style. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Theme Gallery offers, at the moment, just a handful of themes as it is a relatively new service. Today, the company approved the first two Material Design themes, so that every user that wishes that his or her device looks like it is running stock Android 5.0 Lollipop, will be able to easily make it do so, by installing and applying these new themes.
The Galaxy Theme Gallery is normally updated every Thursday, but none of the themes that have made it into the Gallery are really that great. Most of the currently available themes have a cartoonish look and make your device feel cluttered with the distracting UI elements. Since the day the theming service was announced, users have asked for a Material Design theme to be added to the store, Samsung quickly took this into consideration and approved two different Material Design themes. Senior Member at XDA, “cambunch”, is who designed the two themes. In a post at the XDA website, “cambunch” stated that two of his Material Design themes were approved by Samsung and that users should expect them to hit the Theme Store in just a few days. Both of these new themes will most likely be released this week’s Theme Thursday.
Samsung is working hard to hand-pick every single theme that makes its way into the Gallery, but it is a slow process, luckily the Galaxy Theme Gallery appears to be a service that the South Korean based company will continue to expand and improve. The highly critiqued TouchWiz look will no longer be an issue as users can now enjoy an experience reminiscent of stock Android, without having to flash any ROMs or even root their device.
