Software updates aren’t all about smartphones, and even though tablets may not be a daily driver device for most of us, they need updates too including those that are capable of running off of the cell networks for which users subscribe to service. The good news for owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE on Verizon is that the carrier is now sending out the over-the-air software update for Android Lollipop, bringing the tablet forward to Android 5.0.2. The build number for the software is T707VVRU1BOD4, and this is an update only for the Verizon LTE model of the tablet. The update is listed as being released on May 26th so there is a chance that some users began receiving the software update to their tablets prior to today.

As this is moving the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE model forward from Kit Kat to Lollipop, expect the update to be a fairly decent file size. It would also be a good idea to make sure you have enough space on the tablet to download and install the software, and it’s always recommended to have plenty of power on the battery before starting to download any updates over-the-air. If you have this model tablet and haven’t yet started to see any notifications for the updated software being available, you can always manually check for the software update by navigating to settings, then to about tablet, and tapping on software updates.

Unfortunately Samsung doesn’t list any sort of changelog for what is included or changed in this update from the previous software on this tablet model, although users can expect all of the Lollipop specific changes like heads up notifications, plenty of vibrant colors throughout the system UI from the material design in lollipop, as well as the new notification modes. Since this is an OTA update users shouldn’t have to do anything other than download it over WiFi or the LTE network, wait for it to finish, then install it. Whether or not the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE will move forward to Android 5.1 or not is unknown, but given Verizon’s track record for slower software updates to devices it could be a while before it would be sent out.
