Back in April, T-Mobile had begun rolling out the LG G3 Lollipop update, but they were forced to shut it down due to some show stopping bugs, which is unfortunate, but needed to happen. But it appears those bugs have been fixed, nearly two months later. Yesterday, Des from T-Mobile announced that the update had been approved, and late last night he announced the update would be rolling out starting at 12:01am PST. So it should be hitting devices now, with the build being D85120e. So those with the LG G3 can be looking forward to getting that update.
The update to Lollipop isn’t a huge one, aesthetically. However, you will get new features like Smart Lock. Which allows you to have a PIN on your device, but it’ll be unlocked while connected to a Bluetooth device, or an NFC device. So while it’s connected to your LG Watch Urbane, or a Bluetooth speaker like the UE MegaBoom, it’ll be unlocked, and you just swipe on the screen to get into your phone. Which is a pretty nice feature, and probably one of my favorites of Android Lollipop. You’ll also be getting the revamped notifications. Which will now appear on your lock screen. However, if you don’t want to see that content on your lock screen, you can change that in settings, luckily.
While you won’t be getting the exact same UI update that the LG G4 and the LG G Flex 2 have, it’ll be pretty close. One of the main things you won’t be getting is the revamped settings app. Which looks good, except for the “Sounds & Notifications” tab.
According to Des, those that received the April update that was paused (that’s 20b) should be updating to this build, 20e. It should do it automatically, so there’s no need to flash anything at all. It’s just that easy. The rollout will take a few days to hit everyone, possibly even a week. To check for the update, simply head into Settings, tap on the General tab, then tap on About Phone, System Updates and Check for updates.
