Do we have good news for Verizon Wireless customers that own a Moto X 2014 (second generation) – the soak test that was supposed to start last week has officially started today. The other bit of good news is that our assumption it would be Android 5.1 turned out to be true. According to the screenshots sent into our source, it is Android 5.1, version 23.16.3en.US with a build number of LPE23.32-25-3 and about 500MB in size, so make sure your device is charged and ready to go. As with all soak tests, if this goes well for the testers, it could be out as early as tomorrow to all of the Moto X owners – but remember, these updates are rolled out, so you may not get it right away. Of course, you can always go into your device and ask if there are any new updates to receive it faster.
Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to improve stability and add better control over notifications. Under notifications and interruptions – if you have an alarm set within the next 12 hours and you set your device to ‘No Interruptions,’ your alarm will still go off, it will add icons to the volume settings panel that will match those shown in the status bar, and you can now alter notification volume controls while media is playing. You can also now have the choice of dismissing and deleting a heads-up notification by swiping it off your display, but now you can swipe up to remove it from your display, but it will remain in your notifications tray.
Improvements in quick settings allow you to quickly select different Wi-Fi access points or different paired Bluetooth devices with a new pull-down menu under each title. You can now ‘chop twice’ to turn the flashlight on or off without waking or unlocking your device. It will improve device protection should your device be lost or stolen. If you enable Ambient Display, the minimum swipe distance has increased to prevent accidental interactions. Improvements in the Android Runtime (ART) allow for faster application launch times. The changelog also lists about 15 or 16 issue fixes which should really increase the stability of your device and you can hit it up on our source listed below.
