The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Motorola DROID Turbo has just about started rolling out today, but already there are people complaining about at least one Lollipop feature missing from the current update. The ability to create guest accounts, which was introduced by Google in Android 5.0 Lollipop, is absent in the official DROID Turbo Lollipop update, according to multiple postings on Motorola forums. The feature, although a niche one, is present in AOSP through Android 5.1. However, it was absent in the ROM being rolled out for the soak test earlier and continues to be absent in the final OTA update. What makes the absence even more puzzling, is Verizon clearly lists “multiple user accounts” as one of the highlight changes in the Android Lollipop update for the DROID Turbo. Motorola meanwhile, makes no mention of the feature in its changelog for the Android 5.1 update. It bears mentioning here, that the DROID Turbo is exclusively available on Verizon in the US. The current Lollipop rollout is the first major update to the device, which was launched last year with Android 4.4 KitKat out the box.
Droid-Life reports that many of its readers have written to them after having gone through the phone’s settings, and also having made use of the new Lollipop feature that allows users to search for features and settings on their phones or tablets, only to be disappointed by the lack of the multiple user functionality. Users are reportedly getting a Google Plus pop-up contact card by tapping on their avatars in the notification pull-down, which is where you’d expect the user account switching option to be. While users who were looking forward to making use of the feature are hoping it’s a bit of an oversight on the part of Motorola, and that it will be included in a future update, there’s no saying if it will indeed happen or why the feature was left out from the update in the first place.
Meanwhile, in the image below, you can clearly see Verizon making a mention of the feature that has been discussed. The screenshots also denote a device without software on-screen buttons. All recent Motorola devices come with stock Android features which include on-screen buttons, with the DROID Turbo being the only exception, as it features capacitive buttons. So it is not at all hard to assume the pictures below belong to the DROID Turbo.
